Dopamine Menu

Left of Center’s newest tool to support your neurodivergent teen in getting the “boring things” done without the hassle and frustration of working against their brains!

Without the dopamine menu, neurodivergent folks can struggle to stay on task and feel motivated to do less than desirable activities (hello, research papers and getting the dishes done!) Research tells us that young people and adults with ADHD, Autism, and other brain-based differences struggle with the creation and lasting sensation of the “feel good” hormone Dopamine. Oftentimes, this means their brains are constantly searching for this hormone and creating this sensation. Insert doom-scrolling or sudden fascination with a given topic.

The menu allows teens to select items, experiences, and tasks that release dopamine in a structured and supportive way without getting lost in a tunnel of hyper fixation. I want you and/or your neurodivergent teen to lean into what makes them feel good without the fear that they’ll never get back on track. Consistent use of the dopamine menu gives you focused time to work on things like projects, chores, or homework (things we have to do) while freeing up space for the things your teens really love!

A downloadable PDF menu and accompanying short video guide to give neurodivergent teens and adults the happy chemical their brains crave without losing motivation or focus!

Being neurodivergent in a world not designed for your success can feel like a constant set-up. Sitting down to get something done, even when you love it, can feel overwhelming, especially when all your brain wants to do is find something it “likes.”

After watching this video from the fantastic “How to ADHD” team, I knew I had to create a short, digestible version of their menu idea. Since I’ve worked with neurodivergent kids for over a decade, I knew this tool to help those who constantly feel like they are coming up short when it comes to “getting things done.”

I have countless examples of success stories that feature getting kids tailored support, like the Dopamine Menu, which gives their brains a dose of happy hormones they crave without taking them down a YouTube shorts spiral! This tool helps neurodivergent teens and their families reclaim their time (yes, mama Maxine) and gain evidence that they ARE capable, whole, and worthy.
